Arguably, the most innovative tool for precise and efficient endodontics is the apex locator. I have bordered on cult-like fanaticism of my tried and true apex locator. However, there are a plethora of other units on the market that vary in size, cost and purported accuracy. A colleague recommended I try the Woodpecker Woodpex III. A lesser-known brand that can be purchased on Ebay or Amazon for approx. $200 per unit. After forgiving the name, I opted to try the unit on a handful of cases. I was and am still completely blown away by the precise and unfaltering accuracy of this unit. Even without factoring in the value cost, this unit performed extremely well. I used the unit in dry canals, hyperemic canals, hypochlorite-filled canals, draining canals, etc. and it gave an accurate measurement straight away. After a full week of use I then purchased four Woodpeckers for the cost of one “tried and true”. The Woodpecker Woodpex III is hands down a #1 value choice endo product.
