Digital Smile Design App

Painting a rosy picture through words can be tough. With a few simple photos and about 10 minutes of work, the DSDApp can “paint” this picture for you, allowing your patient to see the end result. In the past, simulations were two-dimensional and based on a limited smile library, only allowing the cutting and pasting of objects. The DSDApp offers an opportunity to really show your patient what their smile could look like, far beyond a cookie cutter result. The app creates a custom smile for each patient through streamlined workflow. Furthermore, the developers of the app have a vision to convert the traditional 2D photos into a 3D workflow that integrates the intraoral scan of the patient’s picture. This advancement allows an approximation of what the patient looks like in 3D reality.

Digital smile design has become a buzzword in dentistry over the past couple of years. Now everybody wants to be a smile designer. There’s nothing unique about the concept of smile design, as we’ve been providing patients with solutions to help create new smiles for many years. However, the DSD app utilizes an iPad Pro and simple facial photos to quickly show a chairside simulation of your patient’s potential new smile. There are many ways to help patients visualize changes to their smile. Ideally, doing a direct mockup in the mouth allows for a more accurate visualization; however, that can be time consuming and costly. The DSDApp is effective in creating a simulation of a new smile within 10-15 minutes. For those who wish to take this treatment further, the app allows you to import a digital scan and send this smile design to a lab for creation of a preparation guide for treatment. There are a variety of apps that are available to use, but this app allows you to take chairside design further than others.
