Wouldn’t it be great to create models in your practice without having to dedicate an entire lab to the process?

For those who have an impression scanner, there is a way. There are plenty of offices that have an impression scanner, but when models are needed it still requires using a lab. There is an inherent cost associated with creating models through a lab, and also a time factor depending on location and how busy the lab is. We’ve managed to take control of this process by using an in-office desktop 3D printer from Formlabs. The Form 2 printer has a variety of dental applications, including printing diagnostic models, occlusal guards, and surgical guides for dental treatment. Formlabs has created a printer that has a small footprint and a price tag that won’t break the bank. This printer provides an open STL format, which allows digital scans from most impression scanners that allow export of STL files. The printing software is free from Formlabs and very user friendly. Setup and implementation is easy and takes only hours to learn. Online resources are vast, making training a snap. Depending on the detail you require, the cost per arch for a model or appliance can be between $5.00 and $15.00. Check out formlabs.com and see how you can simplify this process in your office.
