How many patients hate going to the dentist because they don’t want to feel numb hours after receiving a routine restorative procedure, or will only schedule their appointment after work because they don’t want to go back to work with a numb mouth?  These are issues we all face in our practices; however, there is an anesthetic-reversing agent called Oraverse that can help.

Oraverse (phentolamine mesylate) has been around for more than 10 years. Essentially a vasodilator, it allows patients to return to a normal feeling within 30 to 60 minutes versus the normal 3 to 5 hours. Oraverse counteracts the impact of vasoconstrictors used in traditional dental anesthetics, allowing for a more efficient reversal of soft tissue anesthesia while having no impact of pulpal anesthesia. More important than simply saving time, it can help prevent unnecessary trauma. This is of particular importance to pediatric patients. Oraverse is safe to use on kids ages 3 years and older and over 33 lbs. These patients have a lower chance of biting their lip and/or tongue while still feeling “strange.” A value-driven product like this allows flexibility in scheduling patient care, improves the experience of your patients and potentially leads to more referrals. If administration is timed appropriately, it’s very possible for patients to feel back normal as they’re leaving your office.
