Having clinical experience with five different scanners, it was hard to believe another one has distinguished itself from the rest. Well, the new iTero element certainly surprised me.
When I was asked to give it a try by scanning a few colleagues, I thought the shape of the wand and unfamiliar software would be cumbersome. Was I wrong! They were some of the easiest, most ergonomic scans I had ever taken, and it took little training to learn how to use it. The latest iteration has a smaller wand, faster acquisition rate and more compact footprint. For those who enjoy orthodontics, the scanner has a seamless connection with the Invisalign workflow. Being a restorative dentist, it also has a convenient workflow for my labs.
Newer features include time-lapse, which allows us to compare two scans over different time periods and track changes. This is great for our patient examinations when showing differences in tooth positions, wear and other clinical changes. I also like the fact all data is stored in a secure cloud format so we don’t have to set up complicated backup networks. Did I mention the HD image and color scans are very appealing to our patients? I would definitely consider looking at iTero before purchasing your next scanner.
