Surely there are less expensive options available than Ethicon VICRYL sutures; however, when dealing with postsurgical tissue management, the proper suture is worth the cost. I’ve been using these sutures exclusively for the last several years, and I have been able to not only minimize patient soft tissue irritation, but also ensure proper healing in shorter times.
Rather than doing single interrupted or mattress sutures, I’ve found the tissue tolerance to be better than any suture I’ve used in the past. Tying off is always very easy, with the first knot always holding. This makes the suture time quicker, minimizing patient treatment times and swelling. They are very supple and nonirritating to the soft tissue. In a short four- to seven-day recall and suture removal appointment, most patients report not even being able to feel the sutures in place.
