Patients used to be accustomed to seeing amalgam restorations and metallic crowns. As long as a new restoration was in the ballpark of what teeth should look like, it was acceptable.
The world today is very different! We must do all we can to give our laboratory partners proper information so they can properly create matching restorations. Digital photography is a great medium to communicate shade for intricate anterior restorations; however, it can be cumbersome to take shade photos of posterior teeth.
The VITA Easyshade V is a great adjunct to our practices to aid in shade selection. This spectrophotometer provides shade in VITA classical A1-D4, VITA SYSTEM 3D-MASTER, and VITABLOCS shades. In addition, it can scan existing restorations as well as natural tooth structures.
The unit itself is very simple to use. It is cordless and sits in an inductive charging cradle to allow simple mobility throughout the office. The low learning curve assures all team members can be on board with minimal training time.
One of the costliest things in practice is redoing restorations. While no system is 100 percent perfect, the VITA Easyshade V makes dentistry more predictable and limits having to return restorations to our lab because of inaccurate shade selection.
