To put this in perspective, I had a hard time upgrading to the latest iPhone, and again when I had to give up my standard headphone jack a few years back. When I first had a chance to put my hands on the X-Smart IQ Cordless Endodontic Motor at the International Dental Show in Germany in 2015, I was perplexed. Little did I know that soon everything was going to be cordless and run by Bluetooth technology. Now that I know what I know now, I would never go back to the technology I was using.
This motor is utility, reliability, convenience, and technology all wrapped up into one. It can run continuous and reciprocating motorized endodontic files, controlled by an iPad. I feel the motor is so well-balanced, perfectly torque controlled, and properly weighted that it gives the feel of a corded motor.
My favorite feature until now has been to customize the series of files I use when I hybrid a case. This allows me to quickly change file lines in the middle of treatment with a preprogrammed scenario, allowing me to deliver the best patient experience possible.
The iPad sets you up for not only controlling the motor via Bluetooth, but can also be used for patient education, data collection, and possibly more instruments that could be connected in the future, such as an Apex locator.
