While no one intends to drop things or accidently splash the patient’s eyes with dental materials, unfortunately accidents happen. These accidents can negatively impact the life of our patients, and they can easily be protected against.
In dental school, I was told to always have eye protection for my patients, and I have held to this mantra; unfortunately, trying to find a set of glasses that properly fit all patients has been a 17-year journey. I have literally gone through 20 brands of glasses, and they inevitably are uncomfortable for patients, have a poor fit, or do not hold up to our surface disinfectant sprays.
This journey finally came to an end with SecureFit™ safety glasses by 3M. These glasses flex and easily conform to nearly all head sizes and shapes without adjustments. They also feature an antifog coating.
In addition to a great fit and properly protecting the eyes, the glasses are very fairly priced. Generally speaking, you can find them on online retailers like Amazon or your local hardware store for under $4 per pair.
