Dental microscope categories include ergonomics, lighting, and imaging. I believe I have found the most essential imaging option: the integrated HD video camera from ZEISS.
Moving beyond the manufacturer claims, I can report the image quality is amazing. Capturing still images from a video feed is often grainy and significantly subpar compared to capturing from an external camera. However, this add-on option to any scope levels the playing field. The images are crisp and show extreme detail at any magnification. When compared to an SLR camera, these images are just as high quality.
Another benefit is that this option adds no additional weight. An external camera often weighs down the microscope and swing arm and can be extremely cumbersome to use. That is no longer an issue with this integrated camera. A foot pedal or remote can even be used to capture an image or begin and end a recording. The images and video can be saved to a flash drive for portability or directly imported to your patients’ chart. I also often use the HD video for teaching and training purposes as well. When displaying the video feed, it’s just as clear as looking through the microscope itself.
I highly recommend this camera as an add-on to your existing microscope or as a must-have when ordering a new microscope.
