With today’s resins and all-ceramic restorations, one of the most difficult things to do is block out darkly discolored teeth yet still achieve a natural look. Historically, we may have used a porcelain-fused-to-metal restoration to block tetracycline staining or the greyness that can be evident in non-vital teeth. Cosmedent’s Pink Opaque may be the solution to these challenging cases.
Over the years, ceramists have used a slight pink coloration to warm up the cold grey look of many metals. Cosmedent took note of this and created a pink opaquer resin that can be used chairside to block the greyness that is evident in many patients. The simple solution comes in a syringe and can be applied in a very thin layer over the dark area and then polymerized. If darkness is still evident, another thin layer can be applied and polymerized.
Once the dark color has been neutralized, any light cured paste type composite can be applied directly to it. The material also can be used in indirect cases before placing porcelain veneers on teeth with tetracycline stain or blocking out cast post and cores.
Pink Opaque by Cosmedent allows us to be conservative by not having to overly prepare teeth to simply block out dark coloration. One of the beauties of this product is its simplicity; no costly technology is needed for its use. It simply requires understanding color and having a product that allows you to block out discoloration while creating warmth.
