When I determine which products I’m going to use in my dental practice, I always consider how effective they are, how easy they are for my team to implement and the cost versus savings proposition.
Based on those criteria, we recently changed the way we treat our dental water bottles to Sterisil Straw. The straw is installed in all of the operator’s water bottles to disinfect the water that goes into our patients’ mouths, as well as to reduce biofilm in water lines. Biofilm contaminates the water, gives it an odor and produces water that’s unsafe for patient care.
Installing Sterisil Straw is quick and easy, and only needs to be done once a year. If you register your straws, the company will remind you when it’s time to replace them. Used straws can be recycled.
The straws are non-corrosive, non-toxic and have no impact on composite bond strength. They also help protect the environment because they do not contain oxidizer, which can release mercury in waste water.
At first, I thought the straws seemed expensive, but after I considered the cost of the tablets and shock I was using, I realized it was an investment worth making. This product also has streamlined my team’s maintenance schedule and saves us time every week.
