This is a common issue with the shading of most composites. Due to the variations in physical properties, not all “A1” shades are created equal. Often, it’s the value that varies between brands, but it’s not uncommon that the chroma is also different.
Well fear not, because Style Italiano has created My Shade Guide, a convenient, portable system to create your own personalized shade guide of your favorite composite systems. This two-part mold is specifically designed to help produce easy composite shade samples of uniform thickness. It provides a professional way to create custom tabs of your dentin and enamel composites from any kit you desire.
How does it work?
First, place a small portion of composite in the first mold, and then press it down with the help of the second mold. You can mix and match enamel and dentin or simply keep one or the other. The final shade tab occurs after light-curing is complete. This results in a composite veneer made out of enamel shade material. Lastly, you will need the hollow part of the veneer, with the selected shade of the dentinal composite material, to complete the process.
This process is simple, fast and looks professional! You can make a series of composite shade tabs for all your regular composites.
